세계 각지로부터 온 60여명의 아티스트들의 120점이 넘는 감각넘치는 현대유리공예귀금속전시가 7월 15일부터 9월 20일까지 두달여에 걸쳐 뉴욕에 소재한 The Museum of Arts and Design에서 대중들에게 선보입니다. 유리와 장신구의 결합이라는 이색적인 전시였는데 세계적인 귀금속디자이너인 Linda MacNeil and Robert Ebendorf (United States), Giampaolo Babetto and Giorgio Vigna (Italy), Otto Künzli and Karl Fritsch (Germany), Mieke Groot 그리고 Ruudt Peters (The Netherlands)와 이미 유리로 만든 장신구로 이름이 알려져 있는 체코의 Václav Cigler, Svatopluk Kasalý 그리고 Markéta Šilená 또한 일본에서 온 Simsa Cho등의 쟁쟁한 디자이너들의 작품을 생생하게볼 수 있는좋은 전시였습니다.
새롭고 혁신적이며 참신한 디자인작업을 하는 디자이너들을 발굴하고 격려하는 것을 미션으로 하는 the Museum of Arts and Design의 이념에 잘 걸맞는 전시가 아니었나 합니다. 이 전시를 계기로 현대 장신구와 유리공예의 역사에 중요한 한 부분으로 남고 그 위에 다시 새롭게 도약하는 발판이 되리라고 생각됩니다. 또한 이 전시를 통해 사람들에게 장신구에 있어서 중요한 것은 금이나 은 등 어떤 귀한 재료로 만들었는가보다는 형태와 예술적인 컨셉과 디자인이라는 것을 새롭게 인식시킬 수 있는 기회가 되지않을까 합니다.

이 전시에는 잘 알려진 작가들, 새롭게 주목받기 시작한 젊은 작가들로 다양하게 구성되어 있으며 재활용된 유리, 카멜레온같은 형태의 자유로움, 부분이 아닌 표면과 구조를 잡아주는 재료로써의 유리, 심볼과 은유로써의 유리와 아니면 그냥 유리 본연의 성질과 용도로써의 유리 등등 다양한 모습으로 선보입니다. 예술, 디자인과 패션을 이어주는 징검다리로써의 유리를 재해석한 색다르고 의미있는 전시를 여러분들께 소개드렸습니다.
