1차 세계대전 직전까지 Paul Poiret의 명성은 "King of Fashion"이었다. 타고난 감각으로 여성을 코르셋으로부터 해방시키고 터번과 팬츠를 공식복으로 등장시켰으며 화가, 사진작가 등 예술가와 교류를 가진 현대복식의 혁명가였다. 그는 패션을 하나의 작품으로 예술화시켰다.

그의 작품은 이번전시회를 계기로 지난 30년동안 그 어느 때보다도 집중받고 있다. 담당 큐레이터 Harold Koda는 푸아레가 페션역사에 남긴 발자취와 영향력은 가히 대단하다고 평가했다. 푸아레와 그의 패션은 여성의 자신감과 여성이 성취하고자하는 미래에 대한 상상을 실현시킨 것이다.

철저히 여성에 기초했으며 나아가 여성들의 패션스타일, 적절한 향수종류, 집안 인테리어까지도 영향을 줄 정도로 라이프스타일 전반에 걸쳐 영역을 확대했다. 이러한 접근은 오늘날까지도 패션하우스의 전략에 반영되고 있다.

정형화되지않은 패브릭, 러시아 발레, 오리엔탈리즘, 회화에 이르기까지 그가 열정을 가지고있었던 모든것들이 그의 상류층 취향을 대변한다.

이번전시회의 하이라이트는 2005년 5월 파리에서 있었던 푸아레 개인 소장품 경매에서 메트로폴리탄 뮤지엄이 획윽한 의상들이다. 놀랄만큼 멋진 이 경매품중에는 푸아레 조상의 의상들도 포함되어있다, 경매품들의 대부분은 한번도 외부에 촬영되거나 대중에게 전시된적이 없는 것들이다. 메트로폴리탄뮤지엄은 이중 푸아레 부인을 위해 제작된 의상 몇벌을 수집, 전시하였다. 그녀는 푸아레의 뮤즈이자 그의 옷을 원하는 대로 입을 수 있는 특권을 가진 여성이었으며 푸아레는 "내 아내는 내 모든 작품에 영감을 주는 사람이며 그녀는 내 아이디어의 표현물이다."라고 하였다.

그의 업적은 오늘날의 Classicism, Orientalism, Symbolism, Primitivisn에 지배적인 영향력과 함께 이들을 이끄는 원동력이 되고있다. "패션의 제왕"으로 알려진 그는 야수파적인 비비드 컬러와 러시아 발레의 이국적 분위기를 상류층의 고급부틱의상에 도입하였다. 푸아레의 천재성은 패션을 뛰어넘어 연극, 건축, 인테리어 디자인에 이르기까지 광범위하게 영향을 주었다.
